I am committed to being as sustainable as possible to lessen the impact on the environment the cottage is situated in. I hope that, as a guest, you respect and help achieve these goals as best you can.
The cleaning products available at Annie’s Cottage are from The Unscented Company. This company is based in Montreal, Quebec and is a certified B Corporation. It offers a wide range of household products which are all sustainably developed. Their sustainability page provides an excellent overview of all that they do to produce and distribute sustainable products.
The Town of North Frontenac offers recycling at the town waste facility. I encourage you to familiarize yourself with the towns recycling and waste policies on their website.
Annie’s Cottage uses a septic tank. Septic tanks have specific needs to remain healthy. The use of products from places like The Unscented Company help maintain the necessary bacteria for the tank to operate properly. Anything going down any drain in the house goes into the tank. As such, I try to use environmentally responsible products in the washroom too, such as World Products.
In the future, my goal is to upgrade Annie’s Cottage with the following:
- Solar panels to provide electricity
- A compost system
- A vegetable garden
- Rain water collection
- Green roof installation
